Quick Hack: Critical Hits/Misses

This is a replacement critical hit/miss system that doesn't punish a character for making multiple attacks for any game that uses a d20 verses a target number.

When a player rolls a natural 20 or a natural 1, roll a d6 (in this case count a 6 as 0) and either add or subtract it from your roll. A critical hit requires a roll of 10 better than your target number and a critical miss occurs when you roll 10 worse than your target number.

Critical hits deal maximum damage, though particularly vicious weapons might deal an extra die of damage on top of that damage. Critical misses roll on the table below.

Critical Miss (d6)
1: Leave an opening for your opponent to take a free attack
2-3: Knocked off balance and lose Dexterity bonus to AC until your next turn
4-5: Drop weapon
6: Fall prone
